A constant reminder of Marc’s OWN days as a villain. Why would his oldest friend be in a place where he is working with the villains keeping Marc down? Simple: Jean Paul was the only friend Marc had left from his mercenary days. Now, remember, we’re in the mindspace, so this is how Marc sees Jean Paul. But Jean Paul? He is WORKING for the asylum. We and Marc take a doubletake as that is, of course Jean Paul “Frenchie” Dunchamp.Īnd once again I have to make a pause: So far, all of Marc’s allies here? Have been patients in the asylum. She is definitely not amused, and replies she’s Irish, Emmet, not Egyptian.Īs they go out, on their way to the electroshocks they bump into a janitor, who apologizes in French. At this, he calls her Ammut, god of Judgment. To that, she replies that HE came to the asylum from an Orphanage -another big clue to us, the readers, that the doctor is lying since Rabbi Spector is one of those things that have never changed from one origin to the next- and sends him, once again, to electroshocks since he is back to where they started when he arrived.
At her scoff, asking if she’s now dealing with Jake or Steven (even as she still calls him Marc) he replies that the is THE Moon Knight, the Fist of Khonshu, that he knows the hospital he is in is fake as Mental Health institutions are not like that anymore (Which is a bit of a relief, I mean, that it’s mentioned, given how badly mental health institutions are usually portrayed in comics) and that her face is not her real face. Only that Marc tells her that he is not Marc Spector. She’s in a session with him again, only that this time, due to his escape attempt? Billy and Bobby are also there, ready to pounce if necessary. Emmet says are Marc’s scribbles and fantasies about Moon Knight. See, we open issue 2 seeing Marc’s scribbles.
So it’s very interesting that in his personal mindspace? Marc only fights Egyptian gods (Later we’ll see Steven and Jake’s personal corners, but for now, we’re with Marc.
But even then? Marc himself only fought the minions, and not the god directly. The closest he came to do so was in West Coast Avengers, when Seth armies came down to capture Khonshu. He fought the incarnation of a previous Khonshu priest that had been heretical -and shown to be the reincarnation of a Khonshu priest himself, even if that plot device was forgotten almost immediately-, a man CLAIMING to be the avatar of Anubis, and the cult of Khonshu three times, but in none of those apparitions did Marc fought an actual Egyptian god. But the truth is, if you check the previous parts of the primer, that he has never done it.
One of the things that mark everything in this mindscape as strange is that there’s a huge emphasis on the Egyptian gods, specifically on Seth and Ammut, as the enemies of Khonshu, so anyone coming in here as their first approach to Moon Knight could believe that yeah, Moon Knight constantly fought the gods of the Egyptian pantheon.
CIV 6 PATCH SETTLERS PANTHEON SERIES
Which, well, duh! We all know Ammut from the series! And the series took inspiration from here, so of course she’d be the bad guy.Įxcept… Before this? Moon Knight had NEVER fought against ANY Egyptian god. See, this issue is interesting because it introduces Ammut, Goddess of Judgment, as the villain. We’re still in the mindscape and we’re not going to leave it for a while.īut I take a chance here to make some extra comments. Prologue, Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI, Part VII, Part VIII, Part IXĪs I said, we’re doing this almost issue by issue.
